The branch has welcomed the election of a new president in Elizabeth Duff. She brings enthusiasm and new ideas from her wide range of interests.
Liz has been teaching at The Sir Henry Parkes School for the past six years and comes from a rural background. Her family farms a property at Tottenham, west of Dubbo.
The year’s activities were highlighted with the celebration of the branch’s 50 years since formation with a luncheon for 90 guests back in March.
Planning and participation at the CWA Annual State Conference held in Armidale in May took much effort. Members were on organising committees and many were able to attend this showcase annual event.
Drought relief has been a focus of the state organisation in past months. Drought aid grants of up to $3000 are still available to eligible farming families and those reliant on farming for primary source of income.
The CWA Disaster Relief Fund has been given many millions of dollars from branches, members and other organisations such as Coles, Dick Smith Foods, National Australia Bank and the National Farmers Federation.
Partnerships formed with many others such as Red Cross have assisted with the process of identifying those in need. To date more than $4 million has been paid out to 2600 recipients, averaging $350,000 per week. The local branch has received generous donations that have contributed to the fund.
The local members can help with this application process and are encouraging families to apply for these grants. Access to the Rural Financial Counselling Service is also available.
As well as supporting state projects all year the Tenterfield members have been helping locally. In recent weeks members have taken part in the Peter Allen Festival, met with other branches in the area, helped at the community fete selling cakes and served morning tea at the Remembrance Day service.
The year will be rounded off with a fundraising street stall and Christmas Party before a two-month break.
New members are always welcome to join the branch and any group seeking help with their work are also welcome to ask CWA for assistance. Contact details can be found on the CWA of NSW website.
