Tenterfield Shire Council mayor Peter Petty has shared his appreciation of the efforts of residents, emergency services and neighbouring communities who have united over the past week in the face of the fire emergencies impacting so many.

"Although we have been fortunate not to have suffered a far greater loss as a result of the emergencies to date, the work of local emergency management support services -- such as the co-ordination of firefighting resources and disaster recovery works -- would have been impossible without all the support council has received," he said.

"The NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Police, Family and Community Services, Office of Emergency Management, Kyogle Council, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and our community support through Salvation Army, St Vincent’s, and many others all of which have rallied to minimise damage, contain loss, and support those seeking assistance.
“As the mayor or Tenterfield Shire Council, I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who have supported the community as we continue to face this emergency and clean up.
"I would also like to make a special mention to acknowledge the staff of Tenterfield Shire, who have gone above and beyond in supporting this effort.”
Tenterfield Shire Council staff have been deployed in response to requests for emergency assistance, with minimal impact to ongoing operations of council at this stage, Mr Petty said.
“Whilst the source of the Tabulam fire has been identified, the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services will review the Wallangarra/Jennings blaze given the fire started in Queensland.”
