Council is on board and this year there's even a bit more flexibility, with fishing allowed up to the dam wall. Mr Davey said there'll be a few restricted areas due to earthworks and danger spots but these will be roped off and there'll be Oz Fish members patrolling to keep everyone safe.
"There's been some bad stuff happening in Tenterfield," Mr Davey said.
"This is a chance to get out and have a fun family day."

Oz Fish received a grant through the Recreational Fishing Trust to help fund the day, and that translates into lots of giveaways. Everyone who registers on the day gets a ticket to go into the draw for 20 Shimano rod-and-reel packages, and there'll be plenty of mystery prizes for odd categories so everyone's in with a chance. (No fishing prowess required.)
The cost is just a gold coin donation and this goes to helping the local habitat, with another $43,000 just announced to help Tenterfield Creek.
There's no limit on numbers and it was a great day last time, with nearly 200 participating.
Mr Davey said to just turn up at the Saddler Estate with bring-your-own fishing gear. It's all bait fishing (no lures allowed). He said you can't go past a good yabbie but worms, cheese and even a bit of chicken fillet can temp a catch.
The odds of success are increased with the dam's low water level, and Oz Fish members will be on hand with advice and support.
Tenterfield Lions Club members will be running the barbecue (if they're not caught up feeding firies),
