Play for early birds commenced at 9am on a beautiful autumn morning on Saturday. There was good attendance with 32 players taking to the rink.
Mingoola, Pyes Creek, and Frazers Cutting RFS volunteers made it a family day out and their children took to the field for bowls on the top rink. Hope all enjoyed their day.
There was some potential on display, especially from Mitchell Hynes along with Tracey Brennan, Josh Gorton and Jayne Hynes. It was a social morning and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
The afternoon session commenced about 1.15pm and we saw 22 players take to the rink. We had expected this to be the busier part of day but we were mistaken.
Barney Downs, Homestead, and Mingoola were represented in this session. We had numerous first time players and we hope they enjoyed their day. Perhaps we will see them on the greens in the near future. We are always on the lookout for new players.
It was good also to see three or four players come out of retirement and have a game, and they still have it.
On behalf of the club we thank all players for attending. We also thank those who dropped in and had a cold one and indulged in the sausage sizzle (beautifully prepared by Greg and Marie Ambrose).
To all who bought a ticket in the $200 Coles Vouchers, many thanks for your support and congratulations to Peter Geihe on purchasing the winning ticket,. Enjoy your shopping Peter.
A big thank you to the management and board of our great club for allowing us this day, and their continued support leading up to the event. They kicked it off with a donation of $3000 which was very much appreciated.
We also thank our kind sponsors who helped make the day possible and through your support we hope the participating brigades can purchase items for their fire trucks to make it a bit more comfortable when they are out their fighting those nasty fires.
Official procedures for the day were closed by club president Jim Bennett who proposed a toast to all our emergency services personnel and thanked everyone for their support in this project. All money raised on the day goes directly to the brigades who participated on the day.
The final figure is not available at this stage but estimates are that each brigade present on Saturday, through the kindness of Tenterfield and district citizens, should receive close to $900 each so thank you all for your support.
