Tenterfield Community College was approached to source quilters and sewers to create brightly coloured masks and scrubs for people in the area.
"One of the members of one of our medical establishments contacted me and said 'do you reckon any of your quilting ladies, or sewing ladies, would be able to make up scrubs and face masks for us? We need them desperately, we can't buy them online and they want bright colours to cheer up their clients in this sad time,'" Tenterfield Community College's president Kim Rhodes said.
"Our community college secretary and I had a think about it, we spoke to the local fabric store [Country Curtains], which is currently closed due to the coronavirus," she said.

"The lady there offered that if people wanted fabric to purchase to make up these scrubs and so forth, she would be happy to send photos to them via phone, pay via phone and she can deliver the materials to them or they can pick them up from her."
Since the post when on Facebook on Sunday, there was an overwhelming response.
Mrs Rhodes said their shout out was shared around the community and, as of Monday morning, there were already 16 people eager to lend their sewing skills for the cause.
She emphasised the masks would be for general use and can be re-used with regular cleaning.
"The face masks have to be two-sided, and I should make it clear, the face masks would not be able to be worn by some staff," Mrs Rhodes said.
"The face masks would be more for personal use, not to be working in because staff that are working in those facilities have specific face masks they have to wear to meet all the regulations."
The Tenterfield Community College are putting together a list of sewers as well people eager to purchase masks and scrubs.
