Tenterfield Shire Council will be complete the work in conjunction with pavement rehabilitation of the New England Highway by Transport NSW in the same area.

Due to commence on Monday, September 28, it is estimated the project will be completed by November 28. Work will start at Miles Street and move towards Clifton Street.

The works will proceed in 100 meter sections, with work on these sections typically occurring for two days. There will be no street parking available or access to the footpath on either side of the Highway in the 100 meter work site.

Single lane closure of the highway will be enforced through the work site and motorists may experience short delays during this time.

Mayor Peter Petty said the council were trying to minimise the amount of time that water is unavailable to properties along the route.

"In order to achieve this, council will be leaving the existing main, which is in the centre of the road, and laying new pipe along the kerb of Rouse Street (eastern side).

Water will be cut off for between one and two hours in order to be able to connect the new main, Mayor Petty said.

"Council understands the importance of minimising the impact along the route, and will be working with the affected businesses to try and schedule this cut-off for a time which will cause minimal disruption," he said.

Works will be limited to business days, typically between 7am and 5pm. There may be extension to this some days due to unforeseen circumstances. On closure of the work site each night, the roadway will be reinstated and opened to both lanes of traffic.

Street parking in the work zone is not available until the work zone is moved on as this will cause disruption to the works.
