TENTERFIELD'S Jann Oberman last week was recognised with a NSW Grandparent of the Year Award, presented by State Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin during a visit to Sir Henry Parkes Memorial Public School.

Ms Saffin said it was an honour and a privilege to meet Mrs Oberman, who was nominated for the State award by the school, where she has volunteered in the canteen once a month for the past six years, and provided additional support when needed.
She has made regular donations to the canteen and supplies home-baked goods for sale as well.

A modest Mrs Oberman thanked Ms Saffin for the award and accepted it on behalf of all volunteers at Sir Henry Parkes Memorial Public School.
Principal Anna Starcevic and NSW Shadow Minister for Local Government and Veterans Greg Warren were on hand to add their thanks and congratulations.
Mrs Oberman has six grandchildren, three in Tenterfield, including the youngest Katie McCowen who is a Year 5 student at Sir Henry Parkes PS, and three in Wagga Wagga.
She regularly attends Education Week events, Grandparents' Days and assemblies, becoming an adoptive grandmother for other children who do not have grandparents present.
Mrs Oberman has donated handmade goods for sale at school fetes and also runs craft classes for children and adults in the community.
