“Tenterfield District Tennis Association is excited it has received $3090 to purchase a new ball machine,” he said.
“This equipment will create new training opportunities for young, up and coming players in the district.
“Tenterfield Traditional Archers will have a similar opportunity with $1390 made available to secure new archery equipment.”
Mr George complimented the tennis committee on the work that has been done at the club, calling it one of the best tennis facilities he’s seen for a town of this size.
Christine Foster said the club’s new ball machine will be a great asset for training junior players, with the machine having many functions to challenge the player and improve skills.
Bob and Marian Rogan and David Corney were on hand to hear that the fledgling archery club can purchase more equipment, and to update Mr George on progress at the Scrub Road site.
The funded projects were among 831 that have received funding as part of the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant Program. The program provides grants of up to $20,000 towards projects to assist regions with rallying the community together and ensuring ongoing involvement in sport.
“The NSW government is committed to supporting grassroots sport and improving participation rates across the state,” Mr George said.
“We know that sport has many proven health, social and economic outcomes and I encourage eligible clubs to apply for the next round of funding.
“Projects that are eligible include upgrades to local amenities or improving access to facilities, training programs and community events.”
